I have many fond memories of Aunt Marie and will miss her a lot. It was always exciting to be expecting a visit from aunt Marie and uncle Dave at my parents farm in Saskatchewan as I was growing up. My cousins Marilyn and Darcy are lifelong friends of mine and I always was delighted to be invited to join their family for a special afternoon to go to a lake nearby for swimming fishing and camp out meal. Aunt Marie was always someone that I could confide in for advice when I wasn’t sure my parents would understand the situation! She was an encouragement in many ways. There were days I remember her spunkiness too. One particular day our family milk cow was not cooperating with my efforts to get her home to milk and no amount of my running after the creature was helping to change her ways. Aunt Marie saw and heard me and next thing I knew she had jumped on my bicycle and was racing past the cow to head her off from getting to the far end of the farm yard and I still hear aunt Marie’s shouting “ you get back here—you dumb jack o lantern”! The cow listened or figured she was losing her escape plan and headed back to be milked. I sure appreciated that Aunt Marie was visiting that day !
