Funk’s Funeral Home in Rosthern was started as a new business in 1977. However, the history of the Funk family in the funeral service began with grandfather Abraham A. Funk sometime around 1918, in Mennon, Sk. and later in Dalmeny. Abraham was probably the go to casket builder in the area, and that developed into funeral service. That continued on until 1950, when he was almost 80 years old, and he asked his son Clarence and his wife Mary to move back from Three Hills, AB., to continue in funeral service. Clarence worked mainly as a carpenter in the early years, but slowly the funeral service grew to where it became a full time business as Dalmeny Funeral Home.
In 1980, his oldest son, Gerald and his wife Jenny took over the business and continued until their youngest son, Stefan and his wife Katrina took over in 2012. In 1976, Clarence’s youngest son Bryan completed his embalming apprenticeship in Saskatoon. In 1977, Bryan and his wife Esther opened Funk’s Funeral Home in Rosthern. They continued to own and operate for 40 years. Ryan began his embalming apprenticeship with Bryan 1996. In 2017, Bryan retired from full time service and Ryan and his wife DeAnne purchased the business.
