Obituary of Elaine Peterson

Elaine Peterson July 14, 1940 – October 9, 2019 On October 9, 2019, Elaine passed away peacefully in Saskatoon. Not one to stay idle, Elaine continued to work until Christmas 2018. In early 2019, Elaine was diagnosed with cancer and spent the last two months in palliative care. Everyone who knew Elaine, knew that she cared deeply about her family and friends. She had a love for politics and was always keen to volunteer for any bbq, door knocking or fundraiser. There’s nobody she loved more than her family, including her brother Harold (Denise), nephew Dean (Carlene), nieces Lesley (Dale) and Allison, and grand nieces, Aubrey and Bridget. Elaine was predeceased by her parents Sydney and Florence and sister Delma Harries. She loved to lunch and shared that tradition with us. Some of our favorite memories are learning how to “business lunch” with Elaine and it continued to be a favorite way to hang out, because she always knew the newest restaurants to try. Elaine was always connected to the farm life she grew up in. She routinely took time off from her professional life to help out with the harvest by driving a grain truck. She was always so generous and thoughtful, sharing her home, her time, and her life with us. We have so many great memories of time spent with Elaine growing up and into adulthood. From the hours spent at her apartment building’s swimming pool, to watching her horses at the race rack (and learning how to bet), to hanging out at her place ordering Chinese food after a day in the city. To us, she was worldly, well-connected, independent, strong, and served as an important role model to us. She encouraged and supported us to be the people we have become. Elaine will be missed by many. She will always be remembered and toasted with wine. A private interment of her ashes will take place at St. Cyprians Anglican Cemetery, Wingard, SK. Arrangements are in care of Funk’s Funeral Home, Rosthern, SK (306) 232-5245, http://www.funksfuneralhome.ca.
