September 4, 1975 - November 21, 2024
49 Years
With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Lance Owen Harder, beloved husband, father, son, brother, and friend. After a hard 6-month battle with cancer, Lance passed into glory with his wife and daughters by his side on the evening of November 21, 2024. Lance’s final days were surrounded by the love of family and friends.
Lance was the second child born to Earl and Sheila Harder and grew up on the family farm where Lance put in many long days of good hard work during his high school and Briercrest years. Just down the road a few miles from Lance’s home there was a girl named Maxine, daughter of Art and Ruth Thiessen. They started dating in high school and were married on August 12th, 1995, when they were both just 19. Through all of life’s joys and trials Lance was always grateful for, in his words, “the best partner in life he could ever have.”
After their time at Briercrest, schooling in architectural technology took Lance and Maxine to Chilliwack for a few years, and it was there that they welcomed first Bailey, in 1999, and later Willow, in 2001 to their loving family. After a few years of drafting work and project management in BC, the family moved back to Waldheim in 2006. Lance and Maxine built a beautiful house in Waldheim which kickstarted Lance’s work building homes, and with Lance as designer, carpenter and contractor Front Porch Design and Construction built many homes over the last 15 years. In 2017, Lance and Maxine moved to “the Ranch” where Front Porch Cattle Co. began and Lance along with the girls began to raise the Highland cattle that brought him so much joy over the last few years.
Lance was a man of faith. On confession of his faith in the salvation that only Jesus can bring, Lance, together with Maxine, was baptized on December 5, 1993. Over the years, Lance was involved in leadership, worship teams, small groups, and numerous other forms of service and engagement with his church. Lance’s faith was evident to those who knew him, personally and in business, and it is that faith, that provides peace for the family at this difficult time.
Lance is survived by his wife of 29 years, Maxine, and their children Bailey and Willow.
