Obituary of Adeline Sawatsky

Please share a memory of Adeline to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

May 18, 1938 - November 13, 2022

84 Years

Adeline Mary Sawatsky was born to John and Mary Sawatzky at Hepburn, SK on May 18, 1938.  She attended Schmidtsberg School completing her grade nine and then finished High School in Hepburn.

After searching for years, she accepted Christ as her personal Savior in 1958, and within a week began attending Bethany Bible Institute, completing the three-year program.  She was baptized and accepted as a member of the Hepburn Mennonite Brethren Church in 1959.

After High School, she worked part time in the Hepburn Post Office and at Mennonite Mutual Hail Insurance.  One year was spent working for the Gospel Message in Saskatoon.  After attending Business College, she spent seven meaningful and fulfilling years working as a secretary at Bethany.  She enjoyed secretarial work.  She taught a Sunday School class for many years and also worked in the Craft Shop at the Menno Home in Waldheim for three years.  Crafts were a special joy for her from early childhood.  Crocheting, knitting, quilting and other crafts filled many hours with a feeling of peace, contentment and purpose.

In 2000 Adeline sold her home in Hepburn and moved to Bethany Manor in Saskatoon.  While there, she created many quilts, knit countless numbers of baby outfits, purchased and packed the contents for hundreds of Shoe Boxes for Operation Christmas Child, and assembled dozens of School and Health Kits for Mennonite Central Committee.  Her health began to decline which resulted in her moving to Sunrise Place Personal Care Home in Rosthern in April 2022.

Adeline passed from this life into the eternal presence of her Lord in the early morning hours on Sunday, November 13.  She was predeceased by her mother in 1986 and her father in 1996.

She leaves behind one aunt, cousins and many friends.  Many thanks to the amazing staff at Sunrise Place for their tender and loving care provided which brought much joy to her in the final chapter of her life.

The Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Sunday, November 20, 2022, at the Hepburn Mennonite Brethren Church, Hepburn, SK officiated by Ralph Gliege. Viewing will be held prior to the service 1-2 P.M. A livestream link will be available on Adeline’s obituary page at www.funksfuneralhome.ca.  Interment will follow in the Hepburn MB Cemetery.
