84 Years
I went to be with my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on October 19, 2022, at age 84 years. I was born in Caspin, SK to Henry and Margaret Heppner. Being the third oldest of ten children I felt that a lot of responsibility was placed on me, like having to look after my younger sisters and brothers as well as helping around the home as soon as I was old enough. Several years later Dad and Mother moved us to a farm west of Waldheim, SK approximately two miles west of the Brotherfield Church. I attended a small country school where I completed my grade eight.
It was at the Brotherfield Church where I first started going to Sunday School, I enjoyed Sunday School a lot, but didn’t enjoy the church service because the sermons were preached in high German, and I wasn’t able to understand what they were saying so it was quite boring to me until later when they started preaching in English. After attending a revival meeting, conducted by Rev. Art Martens, I made the decision to ask Jesus to come into my heart and to forgive my sins. 1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. Romans 19:9 That if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead you will be saved. Several years later I was baptized upon confession of my faith and received into the Brotherfield MB Church as a member. I was baptized in the North Saskatchewan River; this was an amazing experience for me.
I was predeceased by my dad in 1969 and my mother in 2007; both sets of grandparents; sisters Florence, Sarah, and stepsister Eileen Fast; my stepfather Henry Friesen; sister-in-law Elsie Heppner; brother-in-law Sylvester Kachur; numerous uncles and aunts. Leaving to morn my passing are my siblings, Alfred (Susan) Heppner, Gladys Kachur, Wayne (Mary) Heppner, Gloria (Wayne) Gursky, Erma (Jack) Wagner, Cliff Heppner, Harv (Lori) Heppner, Reg (Helen) Friesen; brother-in-law Eldred (Linda) Fast; uncles, aunts, many nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.
I first worked as a live in housekeeper for several years, then in 1963, I moved to Bassano, AB where I worked in a small hospital. In 1965, I started working full-time at University Hospital where I continued to work until my retirement on November 1, 2003. I worked in five different departments, sometimes under strenuous and difficult conditions and circumstances, but God was always with me. There were times when I questioned what I believed, this was difficult, He alone is my rock and my salvation, my stronghold; I shall not be greatly shaken. Psalm 62:2. I enjoyed my home, as well as helping family and friends as long as my health permitted. I enjoy reading and doing a variety of crafts and puzzles.
I would like to thank the pastoral staff and their families (present and past) care groups, and each and every one of you for ministering to me in so many ways, you have been like family to me. This is the day that the Lord hath made let us rejoice and be glad in it.
