Obituary of Olga Martens

July 12, 1934 - June 25, 2022

87 Years

The death of Olga Martens, age 87 years of Rosthern, SK, occurred June 24, 2022, at the Rosthern Hospital with family by her side.

She is survived by her: children, Myron Martens, Nathan Martens, and Shannon Martens; brothers, Franklin (Jeanne) Plett, Benjamin Plett, Stanley (Lorraine) Plett, Oliver (Gennie) Plett; sisters, Leona Friesen, Virginia (Edwin) Reimer; and brother-in-law Theodore Friesen.

She predeceased her: husband Peter Martens; parents Abraham and Martha Plett; sister Georgiana Friesen; brother-in-law Edward Friesen; sister-in-law Diane Plett

Olga was born in Elmwood, MB and grew up in Rosenort, MB where her father was the local Coop grocery store manager.  She worked as a bookkeeper at the Rosenort Coop, taught school in Thicket Portage, MB, and worked as a nurse aide at Princess Elizabeth Hospital in Winnipeg, MB. After graduating from Steinbach Bible Institute, she began dating her eventual husband, Peter Martens.  They were married on November 10, 1961. Together they studied linguistics in Oklahoma, then applied for work in Paraguay as Bible translators from 1964-68.  After they returned home, Olga’s focus became on raising her three children.  She also found time to take in five foster kids. Many good days were spent in service of family through cooking, sewing, baking bread, piano playing, gardening, and even fishing in the northern town of Denare, SK.

Family was very important to Olga. She was always happiest when everyone was together.  Her faith in Jesus brought her much comfort and purpose.
