Obituary of Cecile "Ceal" Tournier

July 22, 1960 - May 19, 2020

59 Years

Cecile aka Ceal Tournier was born on July 22, 1960 to Al and Roberta Tournier. She would become the big sister to Luke (Michele), Rita, and Leo. Cecile spent her childhood on the family ranch near Duck Lake, where she developed her love of horses, which was cultivated and shared by her family.

Cecile was fiercely proud of her family and their accomplishments.  She truly was the rock that her siblings depended on, and her presence, advice and support will be sorrowfully missed.

For the majority of her career, Cecile worked in support of First Nation governance in the recognition of self-determination, sovereignty and asserting jurisdictional rights. There, she developed special friendships which lasted until the time of her passing. She worked diligently and tirelessly to ensure that exceptional programs and services were available as created by the First Nation communities to support children and families. She also worked to lay the foundation to improve life for the most vulnerable and marginalized population. She gained the respect and affection of the people she worked with and for. The family is grateful to the Mistawasis Nêhiyawak Nation with whom she built a long lasting connection.

On August 29, 1984, Cecile married Sheldon Windjack. Cecile is also survived by and will be missed by her nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles, many cousins, and special people in her life:  Iva, Melody, Carol, Katherine, Lynn, Dani, Brad, Megan, Kory, and Brooke.

As per her request, Cecile’s ashes will be buried with her Great-Grandmother Constance Tournier at the Duck Lake Cemetery. A celebration of Cecile’s life will be held at a later date.

TO CEAL, OUR LOVING DAUGHTER

God must be a cowboy at heart

He made wide open places from the start

He made mountains and trees

The valley and the breeze

And a trail to bring

Young cowgirls home again

Sometimes the trail is hard to find

Give your horse his head

And he will find it in good time.

Love Mom and Dad
