Obituary of Roy Smith
In Loving Memory of ROY DELBERT SMITH who was born December 22, 1935 Zenon Park, SK, and passed peacefully on February 7, 2022 in Rosthern, SK. Roy was 86 Years old.
Roy is survived by his wife of 62 years, Betty (Grusing) Smith and his sons Dwight (Kelly) Smith, Grant (Lori) Smith, and Harvey Smith.
We knew him as Dad, a hard worker, and as someone who you could trust and rely on. He grew up in northern Saskatchewan and Manitoba. After marrying Betty in 1959, they served as missionaries in the Fiji islands for 7 years, then as the business administrator at Millar Memorial Bible Institute for over 20 years, and as secretary/treasurer at Northern Canada Evangelical Mission.
Roy always did more than his job description indicated. In addition to his bookkeeping and teaching duties at Millar, we remember him doing various things such as selling a load of scrap metal, buying a load of chickens or a couple of tons of flour for the school. Always a servant at heart, at Millar he would walk the campus at the end of day to make sure that everything was properly cleaned and locked.
Roy was a busy man but more than anything, he wanted us to follow Betty and him in their love of the Lord. He showed us a life of dedication and servanthood that we can only hope to imitate. He is with our Lord now; and we look forward to that day when we will join him with our Saviour.
He is also survived by siblings: Paul (Daisy) Smith, Mary (Jim) Reader, Matthew Smith and Martha (Bud) Grusing as well as numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He is predeceased by his parents: Ralph and Olive Smith and siblings: June Antosh, Ruth Vust, John Smith, Jim Smith, Florence Dous, and Violet Wittenberg.
