The death of Peter K. Martens, age 88 years of Rosthern, occurred at his residence with family by his side. He is survived by his: wife, Olga Martens; children Myron Martens, Nathan Martens, Shannon Martens; brothers, John Martens, Cornelius (Faith) Martens, Leonard (Evelyn) Martens; sisters, Sarah Martens, Mary Braun, Helen (Gerald) Redekopp, Anne Kruse, Susie (Lawrence) Dueck; and sister-in-law Helen Martens. He is predeceased by his parents, Peter and Helena Martens; brothers Abe (Norma, Freida, Betty) Martens and Jake Martens; sister-in-law Leona Martens; brothers-in law Frank Braun and Walter Kruse.
Peter was born in St. Anne, MB and grew up in Landmark and Kola, MB. He accepted Jesus Christ as his lord and savior at age 12. Peter met his eventual wife Olga Plett while attending the Steinbach Bible Institute in 1959, and they were married a short time after. Together they studied linguistics in Oklahoma, then went to Paraguay under the EMC church to work as bible translators. In 1968 they returned to Canada. Peter found work, first in a farm equipment manufacturing factory in Rosenort, MB, then moved to Denare Beach, SK, where he worked as a heavy equipment operator for over 20 years. He retired to Rosthern, SK, and enjoyed many years with his garden and walking to BigWay for groceries.
The family would like to express their thanks to the Rosthern Medical Clinic, Rosthern Hospital, and Royal University Hospital for the care given to Peter during his recent illness.
The Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 P.M. Monday, September 13th, 2021 at Rosthern Alliance Church, 1714 - 4th Avenue, Rosthern, SK. A public viewing will take place from 1:00-2:00PM prior to the service. Interment will take place at Rosthern Cemetery.
