Bernice Regier

Obituary of Bernice Regier

January 21, 1925 – October 23, 2014 Bernice Regier was born January 21, 1925 and grew up on a farm in the Tiefengrund Church community near Laird, Sask. She often commented on how loving, supporting and comfortable this country home had been throughout her life. But country living and farm life were not her main interests or ultimate future. Big plans for herself always involved thoughts of how she might be of service to others through her church and through a professional career as an educator. Teaching young children and serving her church filled her life to the fullest. She completed grades 1 through 9 in the Hamburg country school near Laird, and grades 10 through 12 at the Rosthern Junior College. She became a member of the Tiefengrund Rosenort Mennonite Church through baptism in 1943. Her academic pursuits included a Bachelor of Christian Education from the Canadian Mennonite Bible College (Winnipeg) in 1956, a Bachelor of Education from the University of Saskatchewan in 1979, and a term of studies at the Associated Mennonite Biblical Seminary in Elkhart, Indiana. Bernice taught elementary grades in Hague, Sk. for 21 years, and then six more years in Laird, her home town until 1985. In her retirement years she lived in a comfortable bungalow in Rosthern. Bernice was widely travelled including several trips to visit relatives in Germany, missionaries in Japan, and a sister in Uruguay, South America. A quote from her brief self written life’s story conveys well the spirit of love and gentleness her life revealed, “Life is good, my love for family, the church, R.J.C and missions makes life worth living.” She passed away on October 23, 2014 and was predeceased by her parents C.W. and Johanna Regier and 11 siblings. She is survived by her siblings: Paula Dyck, Rosthern; Donald Regier, Rosthern; Victor and Sarah Regier, Rosthern; Verna Klassen, Saskatoon; and Wilma Dyck, Normal, Illinois. The Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, October 29, 2014 at 2:00 P.M. at Tiefengrund Rosenort Mennonite Church. Interment will take place in Tiefengrund Cemetery. Arrangements are in care of Funk’s Funeral Home, Rosthern, SK. (306-232-5245, http://www.funksfuneralhome.ca).
