Obituary of Bernie Petkau
August 5, 1956 – June 18, 2019 Bernard (Bernie) Petkau blessed us with his presence for 62 years. He was born August 5th, 1956 in Saskatoon, Sk. He passed away June 18th, 2019 surrounded by family. He courageously fought an aggressive, rare cancer for 1 year. He was an inspiration to many people as he showed much resilience and faith that he was in God’s hands the entire time. Bernie was smitten by his wife Diana in 1986 at Eastview Bowl. They married June 2nd, 1990 and were blessed with 29 years together. Bernie was baptized at Cornerstone church on April 18th in 1993. As he got older, his relationship with Christ became much more real and personal to him. He often came home from trucking with non-stop talking about how beautiful he thought God’s creation is. Bernie was not afraid to speak his mind, and when he spoke, his big booming voice was heard for miles. He loved to study the word – King James of course. He enjoyed digging into the science of the bible, and often talked about Creation. Bernie had a heart for speaking to people, whether it be on the road, through his financial work, or during his cancer treatments. Bernie is survived by his wife Diana Petkau; his children, Brittany (Cody) Braun, and their children, Jackson and Charlotte; Mackenzie (Sheldon) Janzen, and their daughter Penelope; Jennifer (Derek) Fisher, and their children, Courtney, Bree, and Megan; Autumn (Kelly) Thompson, and their children, Ethan, Evan, and Elle; Murray Petkau. He was also survived by his father Ben (Maida) Petkau; his sister Cheryl (Steve) Rainforth; and his brother Jack Pocha. He was predeceased by his mother, Lorna Petkau. He will forever be remembered as a loving husband, father, and papa. A Memorial Service to celebrate Bernie’s Life will be held on Sunday June 23, 2019 at 2:00 P.M. at the Borden Community Centre, 301 1st Avenue, Borden, SK.
