Obituary of Elsie Flath

September 8, 1928 – May 15, 2012 Elsie Ida Flath passed away peacefully May 15, 2012, at 83 years of age. Elsie was born September 8, 1928 to John and Martha Rothenburger in Radisson, SK. She was five months old when her father passed away. Her mother then married Emil Loessin, and she is the oldest sibling to two half-brothers and two half-sisters. Elsie married Robert Louis Flath October 17, 1946. Their union began on a farmstead in Radisson, where they lived for 21 years, and were blessed with six children. In 1967 they moved to Rosthern to start farming Robert’s father and uncle’s land, and were also blessed with their seventh child. In addition to farming, in 1969 Elsie and Robert started a laundry and car wash business that was successful for many years. She was kept very busy working everyday at the laundry and dry-cleaning business, helping on the farm, teaching Sunday School, and raising her children. In 1987, after 41 years of marriage, Robert passed away. Elsie continued working and farming with the help of her sons until 1991, at which time she retired and moved into town. This gave her time to enjoy her passion of taking pictures, especially during harvest – her favorite time of the year. She also enjoyed travelling, gardening, crocheting, and staying connected with her children and many friends. Elsie had a strong faith and a determined spirit, which helped her overcome many health battles in the past five years. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, who touched many hearts with her love. Elsie is survived by her children: Grace (Lawrence) Schensney, Karen (Paul) Petriew, Noreen (Warner) Doell, Mavis (Joe) Farina, and Lorne (Dawna) Flath; daughter-in-law Kim Flath; 11 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; brothers Edwin (Miriam) Loessin, Albert Loessin; sisters Alma Locke and Ellie (Herman) Schoenroth. She was predeceased by her husband Robert L. and sons Earl and Curtis. The family would like to thank the staff of the Rosthern Hospital for the great care that Elsie was given, and for everyone’s kind thoughts, messages, and prayers. She will be greatly missed. The Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 19, 2012 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Rosthern, SK with The Reverend Michael Diegel officiating.
