Obituary of Agnes Hardy

August 17, 1918 – February 23, 2018 Agnes Hardy was born August 17th, 1918, to Joseph and Lena Morin from the Carlton District. Agnes worked at home until she married Ward Hardy on October 6, 1936. They made their home on the Hardy farm at Laird, and were blessed with 4 children. Agnes joined the sewing club and helped make many quilts for the war effort. In 1941, Ward joined the Air Force and Agnes moved to Rosthern for three years before joining her husband at the air base in McDonald, Manitoba, with their two oldest children. After the war, they moved back to the family farm where the youngest two daughters were born. Agnes learned to curl after the Laird rink was built and enjoyed going to bonspiels. She also enjoyed the fun times with the women at Birthday Club. After her children left home Agnes went to work for the Laird Co-op in 1971. After selling the family farm, Ward and Agnes moved to Rosthern and Agnes worked at the Co-op store and then at the Friesen’s Shoprite until retirement age. After retirement, Agnes enjoyed making afghans for the grandkids, having all the family home for the holidays and enjoyed time out at East Trout and Candle Lake. Agnes was an active member of the Legion Auxillary, IODE, Catholic Women’s League and the Senior Citizen’s Club. She volunteered at Fair Days and the Station Arts Gallery. Agnes was a faithful member of St. Odilon’s Catholic Church and was Sacristan for many years. Her husband, Ward, passed away in 1996, and after staying in her house for a couple of years, Agnes moved to Parkland Lodge where she enjoyed socializing and puzzling in the evening. Agnes was predeceased by her parents, Joseph and Lena Morin, her husband Ward of 59 years, her infant son, daughter Patricia Wiebe, sisters Marie Eklof, Dora (Lee) Tingley, Rita Kirby, and brother George (Ruby) Morin, as well as four sisters-in-law, five brothers-in-law, and three nieces. Left to mourn are son Ross (Olivia) Hardy, daughters Fay (Verne) Lee and Avis Hardy, son-in-law Irwin Wiebe, seven grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren, four great-great grandchildren, and he brother-in-law Michael Kirby. With deep sadness we say goodbye to a loving mom, grandma, great-grandma, and great-great-grandma and we will miss her smile, generosity, and wonderful cinnamon buns. The family wishes to thank the nurses, doctors, and staff at Rosthern Union Hospital for their excellent care and family support during Agnes’ stay. In lieu of flowers, Memorial Donations can be made to the Ovarian Cancer Society. Mass of Christian Burial will take place at St. Odilon’s Roman Catholic Church, Rosthern, SK, on Wednesday, February 28, 2018 at 11:00 A.M. with Rev. Nestor Gregoire officiating.
