Obituary of Edith Gudmundson

April 9, 1942 – August 20, 2012 Edith Gudmundson made her transition, Monday, August 20, 2012. She leaves behind her husband, Darrell; their children, Thora Gudmundson (husband – Derek Postnikoff), Elena Gudmundson (husband and daughter – Sean and Eleita Cavanaugh), and son, Jon Gudmundson. Also left are her brother Al Peters (Kathy), sister Phyllis Goertz (James), her beloved mother Annie Peters, and several nieces and nephews. Edith passed with ease and grace, the way she walked this earth. Edith Peters was born April 9, 1942 at Aberdeen and grew up in Rosthern. She was a graduate of Rosthern Junior College. Edith went on to study nursing at Royal University Hospital, and continued working there for several years. She met her husband Darrell Gudmundson in 1965 and they were married in Rosthern Mennonite Church on September 10, 1966. Their 45th anniversary was celebrated in 2011. Edith gave up nursing to raise her three children, and ill health prevented her from returning to it. However, she trained for ministry with the Centers for Spiritual Living, obtaining her license in 2004. She spent two years as a Staff Minister at the Saskatoon Centre before submitting her resignation due to health concerns. Those who know her will attest that she continued to mentor them and minister to them up until her passing. She had a healing presence that was felt by all who met her. A Memorial Service for Edith will be held on Sunday, September 9, 2012 at 2:00 P.M. in the Lower Level of the Meewasin Valley United Church, 327 Pinehouse Drive, Saskatoon. Arrangements entrusted to Funk’s Funeral Home, Rosthern, SK. Poem by Darrell Gudmundson Deep in the west Deep in the west The sun now sets Crowning the sky with gold The day is nearly over The workers hands grow cold I look to the east horizon And I see the road ahead In my mind I see a place for me; a place to lay my head A beautiful bridge to cross A beautiful bridge of gold Illumined by the setting sun The pathway now unfolds I set my feet upon the road A highway made for me Across the bridge from life to life I travel easily My life awaits renewed and whole I’m going now to see eternal soul reclothed anew A Spirit still to be
