Obituary of Gilda Eby
March 18, 1922 – May 3, 2014 Gilda left us for her heavenly home on May 3, 2014. Mom passed away peacefully at Saskatoon City Hospital, having lived for a very full 92 years. Gilda was born to John and Frieda Klaassen on March 18, 1922, and was raised on a farm in the Tiefengrund area, north of Laird, SK. Gilda married Martin Eby on October 19, 1950, and they farmed together at Laird until Martin’s passing in 1982, at which time she moved to Saskatoon. They had two children, daughter Marilyn (1951), and son Milton (1953). During her time in Laird, Mom was active in St. John’s Lutheran Church, in curling, and in various charities. After moving to Saskatoon, Mom became active in Resurrection Lutheran Church, The Widow’s Club, YWCA (especially aquasizes), five-pin bowling, lawn bowling, and various charities. Mom enjoyed travelling, and travelled across Canada, throughout the USA including Hawaii, and to Mexico, England, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand. Gilda was predeceased by her infant brother Willy, parents John and Frieda, husband Martin, and sister Hertha Kampen and brother Curt Klaassen. Left to cherish her memory are her daughter Marilyn (Lance) Moen, grandchildren Jaime (Stacey) Schroeder and Scott Moen (Susan Mutch), great-grandchildren Sydney and Alexis Schroeder; son Milton (Audrey) Eby, step-granddaughters Tanya (Omar) Spence, and Andrea (Ashley) Nadeau, step-greatgrandsons Aidan and Nylan Spence and Tyson and Hudson Nadeau; brother Oscar Klaassen and sister Dora Klaassen, and nieces and nephews and their children. The family wishes to express their thanks for the compassionate care provided by the staff at City Hospital Transitional Care Unit and also the staff on 7th floor at St. Paul’s hospital. We also appreciate Luther Heights for providing Mom a safe and loving home for the past ten years.
