Obituary of Gerhard Vogel
May 24, 1946 – April 5, 2014 Gerhard lived a life of adventure and discovery starting in Berchtesgaden, Germany, through to Venezuela and finally Canada. He deeply enjoyed learning new things and reading about the newest and latest developments in health, politics, trading, gold prospecting and so many other exciting things. Always propelled by the untiring wings of his bees since he was 16 he often travelled, explored and learned about new and interesting places like the gold mines of Venezuela, the rocky island of Malta, the Berlin wall in Germany, and the stunning blue holes of the Bahamas Islands. He started several of his own businesses ever trying if there was anything he might find more enjoyable than bees but always returning to his first passion of producing honey. He was sincere and dedicated in everything he did, always willing to tell you what he thought about a matter often proving to be unnervingly accurate. His advice, wisdom, kindness and generosity will especially be held in loving memory. His skill and knowledge in so many areas was not only verbalized but also flowed out through his hands as he strove for excellence in everything he built and made from beekeeping equipment to buildings to jewelry. As his final day grew near Gerhard seemed to have one last nugget of wisdom to impart that he considered far more precious than all others and was thus willing to repeat it to all who would listen. There is one most important thing in life, far more important than anything else… what we do with our soul. Gerhard knew Jesus as his saviour and thus passed on to his final journey in peace knowing that it was well with his soul and he would now go to the most exotic and fascinating destination of all. Gerhard’s memory is cherished by his loving wife Victoria; son Erwin (Maria) Vogel with children Amado, Abigail, Elisabeth, and Anna; daughter Erika (Neil) Riley with children Jordan, Dawson, Mchale, Ellice, and Karling; sister Margarit (Peter) Schmidt-Vogel, and brother Waldemar (Carmen) Vogel. He was predeceased by his parents Helmut Gerhard & Martha Minna Vogel. The Funeral Service will be held at Hague Gospel Church, 2:00p.m. on Wednesday, April 9, 2014 with Pastor Allen Kehler and Pastor Luis Estrada officiating. Interment will take place in the Hague Cemetery. Arrangements are in care of Funk’s Funeral Home, Rosthern, SK (306-232-5245, http://www.funksfuneralhome.ca).
