Obituary of Simone Guillou

April 16, 1933 – October 4, 2015 Simone Guillou was born in Rosthern Hospital on April 16, 1933. She grew up on a small farm, three miles south of Duck Lake, Saskatchewan. In September of 1954 she became a teacher’s aid in Perigord, Saskatchewan. A year later she married Jean Guillou and they settled in Rosthern, Saskatchewan. Simone and Jean shared 44 years together. They were blessed with 6 children, 17 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Mom’s greatest passion in life was family and building treasured moments with those around her, she valued her time serving the community and those in need. In the years following dad’s passing, mom treasured the encouragement and support of her family and friends. Mom’s health began to decline which led her to move to Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, closer to where her daughters lived. However, mom missed “home” and returned to Rosthern and resided at the Mennonite Nursing Home, where she lived until her peaceful passing in the early morning hours of Sunday October 4, 2015. Simone had tremendous strength, courage and faith, this along with her love for family and grandchildren will be her legacy. She will always be remembered by her children and grandchildren: son Claude (Debbie) and family, Danielle and Jeff Tollin (Miella, Siofra), Beth and Paul Raycroft, Mark, Steven; daughter Colette (Ron) McGillivray and family, Brent, Ian; son Denis (Brenda) and family, Patrick, Nicolette and Cody Peters (Adison, Gabrielle); son Colin (Mona) and family, Josh, Taylor, Joel; son Mario (Bonnie) and family, Jordan, Chloe; daughter Annette (Fred) Skalicky and family, Dillon, Alynn, Mitchell; one sister Denise (Mike) Bracegirdle of Saskatoon. She is predeceased by her husband Jean Guillou, granddaughter Amy McGillivray, parents Joseph and Alice Gervais, and brother Emile Gervais. The Funeral Mass will be held at St. Odilon Roman Catholic Church in Rosthern on Saturday, October 10, 2015 at 10:30 A.M. Interment of ashes will take place following the Funeral Mass at the Rosthern Cemetery. Arrangements are in care of Funk’s Funeral Home. “I’ve danced, I’ve sung, I’ve given birth, I’ve laughed, I’ve succeeded. Why is everyone so sad?”
