Obituary of Eileen Doris Regehr

July 9, 1925 – May 26, 2015 Eileen Regehr, nee Hale, was born July 9, 1925 at the family home south of Moose Jaw, SK. A talented student, she started school at Dunkirk School when she was six years old. She completed grade 8 there, as well as grades 9 and 10 by correspondence. She was unable to complete grades 11 and 12 because her parents could not afford to send her to the city to complete her education. She went to work for her aunt Marie in their large market garden. She earned a few dollars a month. They eventually sold the farm and moved to the city where they took over a large green house and Eileen was allowed to stay with them. She got a job working at Canada Packers in Moose Jaw. Eileen then went to work at McGavins Bakery. A friend told her and a friend she could get a recommendation to work at Swifts Canadian Co. if they promised to come to church. So they went and got the recommendation to work at Swifts. There were several young men working there doing alternative service. It was here she met the love of her life, Aaron Regehr. They both attended the same church. Most of the men, including Aaron were singing in the choir that was broadcast on the radio under the name “Tabernacle Choir”. Aaron started walking her home after church and after youth events. It was here that Eileen became a Christian. They dated, got engaged and were married October 8, 1945 in the Central Lutheran Church. They lived in Moose Jaw till the next summer, then journeyed to Rosthern where they lived in a small two room house. Aaron worked at Friesen’s Department Store for the majority of his life until he and Peter Martens purchased it from Menno Friesen. In 1948 Linda Dianne was born. In 1951, Carol Jane was delivered and in 1956 Marvin Aaron joined the growing family. In 1964 they built a house on their fifth street lot, then moved to 9006 5th street and eventually to Genesis Estates in 2005. The last move was to the Mennonite Nursing Home 2012 where Aaron passed away in February 2013. Eileen passed away May 26, 2015. She was predeceased by brother, Forest Hale; sisters, Rose and Ila; loving husband Aaron and son Marvin.
