Obituary of Marlene Hinz
May 17, 1934 – September 10, 2020 On Thursday, September 10, 2020, Marlene Grace Hinz, loving wife of Lenard Hinz (deceased July 25, 2020) and mother of three children, passed away suddenly, at the age of 86, at the Mennonite Nursing Home in Rosthern, Saskatchewan. Marlene was born May 17, 1934 and adopted by Aron and Annie Abrams in Laird, Saskatchewan. Marlene grew up in Laird and married her childhood sweetheart, Lenard Hinz on August 28, 1953. They raised their children Debbie (Shawn) Barnes, Jerry (Roberta), Jeff (Gwen) in Laird in the house that Lenard built, right next to the school. Marlene always had a big garden and harvested and preserved the produce from her garden to feed, not just the family for the winter but also to share the produce with friends and neighbours. Marlene was a very loving, giving, caring and social person. She loved inviting friends over and was always eager to be involved in church and community events. She enjoyed baking and after taking some art lessons discovered she enjoyed painting, but her life work was taking care of her family. Marlene and Lenard enjoyed fishing and spending most of their summers at a cottage at Candle Lake. Marlene always had a smile and always ready to help out. Through thick and thin, whatever came her way, Marlene would smile and say “no use complaining”. Marlene was predeceased by her husband Lenard, parents Aron and Annie Abrams, brother Robert Abrams (Calgary) and granddaughter Chantel Barnes. Marlene is survived by above mentioned children, 4 grandchildren – Tessa, Robert, Angela and Justin, sisters-in-law Edith Abrams, Laverna Gossen, Rosella Teichroeb, and brother-in-law Harold (Marjorie) Hinz and many nieces and nephews. Due to covid restrictions there will only be a private family service. Condolences may be entered online for the family at funksfuneralhome.ca. Arrangements entrusted to Funk’s Funeral Home, Rosthern, SK. (306) 232-5245.
