May 6, 1944 – November 27, 2024
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Ronnalee (Ronna) Verokosky (nee Philips) on November 27, 2024, at the Rosthern Hospital in Rosthern, Saskatchewan.
Ronna was born on May 6, 1944, in Port Arthur, Ontario, to May Louella Philips (nee Herron) and William Philips. Her childhood journey brought her to Saskatoon, where she was raised with her siblings and lovingly guided by her stepfather, Alexander Patterson, after her mother remarried.
Ronna married James (Jim) Verokosky on May 13, 1972, in Saskatoon. Together, they raised their family, welcoming their daughter Jeanine in 1974 and later adopting Lawrence, Jamie, Joseph, Victoria (Vicki), and Christina. Ronna’s greatest joy was her children, and her love for them was boundless.
Before her marriage, Ronna worked as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in Saskatoon, where she demonstrated her deep compassion and care for others. Afterward, she dedicated her life to fostering children, opening her heart and home to over 135 children across four decades. She provided a safe and nurturing environment for all who came into her care.
Ronna spent her retirement years on their farm outside Prince Albert, where she embraced the peace of rural life. She was a devoted Catholic, actively participating in the Ukrainian Catholic Women’s League of Canada in Prince Albert. Her faith was her anchor and a source of strength throughout her life.
Known as everyone’s “grandma,” Ronna’s warmth extended far beyond her immediate family. She adored her children and grandchildren (Ethan and Maddox) and had a soft spot for animals. She was known for her sassy but gentle demeanor, her quiet resilience, and her ability to bring joy to others. Ronna also had a secret love for baseball and never missed an opportunity to cheer on her beloved Toronto Blue Jays. During her years at the Mennonite Nursing Home, she brought smiles to residents and staff alike, creating beautiful diamond art pictures and spreading kindness wherever she went.
Predeceased by her mother May, father William, stepfather Alexander, her sisters, and her daughter Victoria, Ronna leaves behind a legacy of love and compassion. She is survived by her children Jeanine (Brad), Lawrence, Jamie, Joseph, and Christina, and grandchildren Ethan and Maddox, along with her extended family and many friends who will carry her memory in their hearts.
Ronna’s life was defined by her unwavering love, her strength, and her selflessness. She will be deeply missed but lovingly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
A funeral service will be held at Funk's Funeral Home, 1010 7th Street, Rosthern, Saskatchewan on Saturday, December 14, 2024, at 1:00pm. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Prince Albert SPCA are welcome, honoring Ronna’s lifelong commitment to helping others. Private interment will be completed at a later date.
Rest in peace, Ronna. Your love and kindness will forever shine brightly in the lives you touched.
