August 29, 1945 - November 27, 2024

79 years

Wallace David Brandt, born August 29, 1945, at Kamsack, SK, the only child of Herman and Mary (Quiring) Brandt.  His mother being widowed just prior to his birth, moved to her parents home (Frank and Helen Quiring), and he grew up in their home along with a teenage aunt and uncle.  He and his uncle Frank Quiring grew to have a very special relationship.  Many people thought they were brothers.

His early life was spent near Pelly, SK, coming to Rosthern in October 1951.  He was educated at Rosthern Elementary School, and Rosthern Junior College.  He served many years as volunteer and board member at Rosthern Mennonite Heritage Museum, and from 1994-1997 on Rosthern Town Council.

Being raised in a Christ centered home, he accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and Savior at Revival meetings held at the Mennonite Youth Farm by radio Pastor J.J.M Friesen of Swift Current at the age of 13.  He was baptized in the North Saskatchewan River at Shekinah by Rev. Rich Bucher in May 1993, and became a member of the Tiefengrund Rosenort Mennonite Church.  Together with his wife Norma, they transferred their membership to Waldheim Mennonite Brethren Church in 1995, where they served as deacons from January 1999 to Oct. 31, 2007.  Wallace also served on the church mission committee.  Feeling the call to serve locally, they transferred their membership to St. Paul’s Evangelical Missionary Church in Rosthern, where he served as secretary/treasurer from Feb 2009 - Dec 2014. Feeling the burden of overload, they became a part of Rosthern Alliance Church in Jan. 2015.

He worked for both Pioneer and United Grain Growers, and for many farmers in the area.  In 1985, he began his janitorial career, first at the Rosthern Town Office and Library, and from Sept 1989, at Friesen’s store.  It was here he met the love of his life, and the second greatest gift from God.  On June 19, 1993, Norma Regier, his co-worker, became his bride.  He always said, “Shopping was great at Friesen’s!”

Upon his retirement in 2006, they enjoyed many trips to Minnesota, Ohio, Kentucky, Manitoba and British Columbia.

Wallace is survived by Norma’s siblings:  Leonard (Anne) Regier, Les (Lil) Regier, Elaine (Mark) Suderman; sister-in-law Marion Regier; numerous nieces and nephews and friends.  He is predeceased by his beloved wife, Norma; his parents, Herman and Mary Brandt; uncle, Frank Quiring; and Norma’s family: parents, Erwin and Selma (Dueck) Regier; and her brother Bob Regier.
