June 9, 1935 - October 31, 2024
89 Years
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mary Leona Friesen, aged 89, on October 31, 2024, at Rosthern Hospital.
Mary was born on June 9, 1935, to Henry and Agatha Neufeld. She was the youngest of 3 with 2 older brothers Dick(deceased)(Gertie) and Alfred (Adelma).
She was a devoted wife to Ervin George Friesen and a proud Mother to her children, Debbie Friesen, Mark (Judy) Friesen, and the late Raelene Friesen. She was also a cherished grandmother to Andy, Vincent, Kara (Andrew), Jade, Heather, Destiny, Tiffany (Ken) and Ashley. Great grandmother to, Jackson, Hallie, Aubree, Alexis, Sheldon, Konita, Anthony, June(deceased), Devon, Sophia, Ciara.
Her grandchildren were her pride and joy spending all the time they could on the farm underneath her loving wings. She hosted many a birthday party for them, bandaged knees and wiped tears. Her and Dad drove to soccer games, graduations and weddings as they grew and ventured out on their own but never far enough from her prayers.
Mary graduated from Caronport Bible College and went on to graduate as a CNA and worked part-time at Rosthern Hospital until retiring in the early 1990’s.
Mary and Ervin got married on August 22, 1970 and were married for over 53 years before Ervin passed away on June 5, 2024.
They lived and worked on the farm six miles west of town until they moved into Rosthern and eventually the Mennonite Nursing Home.
Mary loved camping and spending time with family. We would often go on summer camping trips with the trailer to a local lake or river and sit around the campfire and visit. During harvest time when we were busy in the field all day, Mom would deliver a hot meal or picnic lunch to us and we would enjoy it together.
Mary was involved in Ladies Aid at Eigenheim Mennonite Church and helped out at MCC Thrift Store in Rosthern. She loved to crochet, knit, garden, bake and can. Our basement was always full of an abundance of baked goods in the freezer, canned chicken, canned fruit, potatoes in the cellar, and more.
As kids, we could always find her in the kitchen or the garden and she was rarely idle.
Mom loved her Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ and made sure devotions, bible reading and prayer were part of our breakfast and evening routine. She was a model of faithfulness, often in times of adversity. The pages in her bible were well-worn and she memorized many passages of scripture.
Mary was a woman of integrity, faithfulness, and kindness. Her generosity of spirit and unwavering support of her family and friends will be greatly missed. Mary leaves behind a wonderful legacy and example to follow.
