August 16, 1932 - August 8, 2024
91 Years
David was born on August 16, 1932, in Superb, Saskatchewan to parents David and Susanna (Penner) Bueckert. The first of his siblings to be born in Canada, he was preceeded by his brothers Abram, John, Jacob, and followed by Ernest, Werner, Katherine, Annie, Leonard, and Edward.
He grew up on the family farm, near Darmody where David acquired his lifelong love of nature, and a special passion for horses.
In bible school he met Margaret (Zacharias) with whom he fell in love and ultimately married whose daughter, Patricia, he adopted as his own. As a family, they moved back to the farm of his childhood for a few years, where son, Stephen, was born, before relocating to their own farm near Tugaske, where son, Doug, was born.
During his years on the farm David continued to expand his love of nature and sense of stewardship by working with the University of Saskatchewan's Agriculture extension department as a soil conservation technician, making many new connections with colleagues and neighbours in his efforts to be a positive force in implementing environmentally conscientious practices.
Continuing his pursuit of environmental stewardship, he created a bison cooperative that operated until his retirement.
In retirement David and Margaret relocated to Rosthern. After Margaret's passing he moved to Pine View for a number of years, thence to Rosthern Mennonite Nursing Home where he spent his final days.
David is survived by his daughter Patricia (Robert) Barclay, and sons Stephen and Doug; siblings Jake, Ernie, Werner, Katie, Len (Claudine), Ed (Anna); grandchildren Andrew Barclay (Shawn), Sean Barclay (Maile), Makoto Takagi; great grandsons Lennon and Leo Barclay; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by wife Margaret, parents David and Susan, siblings Abe, John, and Annie.
