August 2, 1958 - December 4, 2023

65 Years

Mom was born on August 2, 1958, in Taber, Alberta. She was the 5th child of 8 born to Cornie and Susie Braun.  The family moved to the family farm in Swan Plain, Saskatchewan, in 1959.  This is where Mom grew up and made many memories.

Mom was baptized upon the confession of her faith in Jesus Christ on May 29, 1977, in the Martensville Mennonite Mission Church.

Mom welcomed a daughter, Krystal, in the fall of 1982. Mom and I created many lasting memories together. My favourite being when she told me the Christmas Story of Jesus' birth.

Mom shared the latter 30 years with her partner and husband, Jerry. Together they spent time camping, going to car shows, playing volleyball, enjoying warm vacations, spending time at their cabin, and spending holidays with family and friends.

A stepdaughter Cora and stepson Ray also entered Mom’s life and became a part of her family.

Mom and Jerry purchased a cabin, and this is where a lot of Mom’s most memorable times were spent with her grandchildren Zachary and Samuel, and step grandchildren Tanner, Mercedes, Austin, and Connor.  We all shared many laughs around the fire and out on the boat.

Mom spent a lot of time out on our farm. Oh, how she loved spending time with Zach and Sam either playing farm, playing catch or soccer.  May long weekend was always spent planting the garden together. She would patiently show the boys how to plant each seed.  Doing Christmas baking was an annual tradition.  She even tried to teach the boys to sew.  She really spoiled the boys and never showed up at the farm without treats for everyone, even for our dogs!

Mom worked hard all her life.  Mom's career ended as an employee at Community Electric after 23 years of dedication.  Mom enjoyed her job deeply.

Mom went for coffee with Jerry quite regularly. Mom's friends were also like family to her.

Mom was always very poised and professional. She had a gentle, soft way about her.

After losing Jerry in 2016, we all noticed Mom struggling. Little did we know the road we were about to travel with her. In 2017, Mom was diagnosed with early onset dementia.  She struggled deeply with this diagnosis, but she sought God to carry her through.  Together as a family we lovingly cared for her. She moved into Diamond House in November 2019 where she spent the last 4 years of her life.  Mom would often tell me and anyone else who came to visit “Don’t forget about me”.

Martha was survived by her daughter Krystal (Murray) Janzen and grandsons Zachary and Samuel; stepdaughter Cora (Jason) and step-grandchildren Tanner (Maddie) and Mercedes; stepson Ray (Ang) and step-grandsons Austin and Connor; mother Susie Braun; brother Bill (Liz) Braun; sister Mary (Ben) Fehr; brothers John (Iris) Braun, David (Theresa) Braun, George (Heather) Braun; sisters Lilly (Brad) Miller, Linda (Darrell) Wiebe; sister-in-law Jean (Peter) Siemens; and many nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by her husband Jerry Thiessen, father Cornie Braun, and parents-in-law Peter and Joan Thiessen.

Murray and I would like to thank my grandma, aunts, and uncles for all their support throughout these past years. Knowing we weren’t alone meant more than words can say.

We would also like to thank all of Mom's extended family and friends, church family, and the phenomenal staff at Diamond House for your support and care.  The people at Diamond House were Mom's family too. Thank you all!
