April 2, 1921 - November 26, 2023

102 Years

It is with sadness that the family of Mary Meister announce her passing on November 26, 2023 at the age of 102 at the Mennonite Nursing Home in Rosthern.  Mary was born on April 2, 1921 in the Village of Steinnu, Russia, and came to Canada in 1926.  She was the oldest child of five born to Mary and John Harms.  She grew up in the Sinnett district where she attended school until the age of 15, until she was needed to help out on the farm.  She married Arthur Meister on October 24, 1947.  They stayed in the area where they farmed and raised their family.  Mom was a full time homemaker, a great cook, a loving and dedicated mother, and worked alongside Dad on the farm.  She was baptised in the Drake North Star Mennonite Church, and later joined the Zion Lutheran Church in Leroy.  After the farm was sold, they retired to Humboldt in 1980, where she attended the St. John’s Lutheran Church.  She had a great sense of humor, and was a very kind and generous person. She had a strong faith and loved the Lord.  In 2000, she moved to Pineview/Mennonite Nursing Home in Rosthern where she resided until her passing.

Mary will be missed by her children: Les (Leslie) Meister, Brenda (Clarence) Hildebrand; her grandchildren: Jeff (Nancy) Meister; Ashley (Kennedy) Fragatta; Lauren (Ryan) Schnurer; Baily (Ilse) Hildebrand; Josh (Laura) Hildebrand; her great grandchildren: Annique & Julien Meister; Claire, Julia & Leo Fragatta; Aiden & Ruby Schnurer; Melanie, Morgan & Mackenzie Hildebrand; Kate & Brooke Hildebrand; numerous nieces and nephews, and many friends.

Mary was predeceased by her husband Arthur, two infant sons, and all her siblings, John, Kate, Eva and Henry.

The family would like to extend our gratitude to the Management and Staff at Pineview/Mennonite Nursing Home in Rosthern, and Rosthern Home Care for the excellent care they provided Mom.  Your friendship and dedication to Mom’s care and well-being will always be appreciated.  Thank you.

There will be a private family service at a later date.
