Obituary of Joanne Parenteau

Please share a memory of Joanne to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

February 25, 1959 - September 4, 2023

64 Years

With deep sorrow and much love, the family of Joanne Marie Parenteau of Saskatoon mourn her passing surrounded by family on September 4, 2023, at the age of 64 years.

She is lovingly remembered by her daughter Reighan (Mike) Botelho; brothers Kal (Joyce) and Rick (Susan); beloved nieces and nephews; great nieces and nephews; and many friends.

She was predeceased by her parents Joe and Lucille Parenteau and niece Amanda Clark.

Joanne was born February 25, 1959, at Saskatoon City Hospital, to parents Joe and Lucille, and a baby sister to Kal and Rick. Joanne attended Buena Vista Elementary and graduated from Nutana High.  Joanne became a mother in 1981 to daughter Reighan, moving to Duck Lake in 1984. Joanne worked at Supervalu in Saskatoon for many years and then managed Duck Lake’s Multipurpose youth hangout spot/poolroom/video rental/bus depot.   When that closed, she provided programming, support and transportation to mothers and young children through a joint Metis and Beardy’s Okemasis Wellness Centre. Her employers and customers benefited from her sense of humour, natural organizational abilities, and uncanny memory.

Joanne retired to Saskatoon. Joanne loved to visit and was always up to share a visit and laughter over a meal or a coffee.  Her hobbies included various crafts but especially crafting bouquets and flower arrangements for others when she wasn’t happily dabbing and visiting at a Bingo session.  She gave countless volunteer hours to Our Lady of Lourdes Shrine during the Pilgrimage times and worked bingos all year long. She was a devoted cheerleader to her brother’s sports growing up and then to her daughter, nephews and nieces in their sports and activities.

Despite limited mobility in her last years, she continued to share positivity, laughter, and concern by reaching out with phone calls and video chats to friends and generations of family. Her calls and visits never included self-pity and she was always present and focused on the conversation at hand. She left others feeling better through good laughs and gave the best advice when asked. She cherished her daughter, son-in-law, nieces, and nephews. She evolved into the Matriarch of the family by gently weaving a thread forever strengthening and keeping the family ties near and far, strong. She was a wonderful mother, aunty, sister, cousin, and friend. Joanne lived a life of caring, humility and hope.
