April 16, 1951 - January 9, 2023
71 Years
With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Donna May Suranyi (nee Wagner) on January 9, 2023, in her 71st year, after a long and arduous journey with Alzheimer’s disease. She was the loving and devoted mother of Greg (Jodie) Wagner and Tami (Chad) Richert, and the proud grandmother of Katerina, Ava, Elyse, and Olivia Wagner. Donna was a loving wife to Frank Suranyi and stepmother to his children.
Donna’s kindness, compassion, and patience were shown in the love she had for her work as an educational assistant at Hague Elementary School, and also in her time working at the Rosthern Mennonite Nursing Home. She cared deeply about her students, residents, and co-workers, always dedicating her time and talents to making the places she worked better.
From family camping trips to vacations in Europe, Donna loved to explore new places. Hawaii was one of her favourite places to visit, and the girls' trip she took to Maui in 2016 was especially meaningful as it was one of the last trips she was able to take.
Being creative gave Donna great joy. She was always crafting, painting, or sewing. She loved to make keepsakes for her family: beautiful dresses were sewn for her granddaughters, handmade teddy bears, and special baptismal chests that she created with her brother-in-law, Ed. Her love to create extended to her community as well, as she often took on special projects for friends and the church.
Donna loved her family deeply, especially her grandchildren. Countless hours were spent with her girls playing, crafting, reading, laughing, and watching them play sports as they got older. Donna always felt grateful for the strength of her family. She always felt that the love and support of her parents, siblings, and children sustained her through difficult times.
Donna was the cherished daughter of the late George and Esther Wagner; dear sister of Jeanette and the late Ed Janzen, Arthur and the late Eileen Friesen, Judy and the late Dick Serack, Harvey and Valerie Wagner, and Keith and Sharon Wagner. She is remembered by her many nieces and nephews and has reunited with her late niece Kylee Wagner and late nephew Lyle Janzen.
