February 9, 1933 – March 24, 2021
It is with sadness that the family of Vicky Kalinowski announce her passing on March 24, 2021 at the age of 88 at the Rosthern Hospital.
Vicky was born February 9, 1933 in Theodore, Saskatchewan, and was the youngest child of four born to Tom and Dora Malinowski.
Mom moved to Prince Albert where she met our Dad, Jim, and they were married in 1954 where they resided and raised their family. Dad passed away in 1991 and Mom continued to reside in the family home until her move to Los Rocas Apartments in 2016, and then to Pineview/Mennonite Nursing Home in Rosthern in 2020, where she resided until her passing.
After Dad’s passing, Mom took on the challenge of getting her driver’s license (much to the dismay of other Prince Albert drivers and her children). Mom spent most of her life as a homemaker and stay at home mom. She took pride in her gardening and yard work, sewing and crocheting. Mom loved to cook a good meal for her family and friends, which included her famous perogies and cabbage rolls.
Mom enjoyed camping, fishing, and lake life. She also enjoyed dancing and good old Ukrainian music.
Mom’s farm upbringing gave her a love of the outdoors and animals. She had a special talent and endless patience when it came to training the family pets.
Mom loved a good game of Kaiser, Canasta, various card games, and playing bingo. She also loved doing jigsaw puzzles, watching her Toronto Blue Jays, soap operas, and a good movie.
Vicky will be missed by her children: Sandy (Frank) Korczak; Larry (Jan) Kalinowski & Darcy (Kirstie) Kalinowski; her grandchildren: Lyle (Kari) Korczak; Kristi (Greg) Connolly & Jennifer (Warren) Chetek; her great grandchildren: Tori & Hudson Korczak, and several furry, four-legged grandchildren; her in-laws: Mike (Iris) Kalinowski; Nick (Marie) Kalinowski; Olga Smytaniuk; Irene (Stan) Korecki; Sylvia Balon; Sylvia Kalinowski; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; and her life-long friend, Vicky Chuhaniuk.
Vicky was predeceased by her husband, Jim; her parents Tom & Dora Malinowski; Jim’s parents, Mike & Jennie Kalinowski; brother Pete (Julia) Malinowski; sisters Lena (Mike) Serediuk and Mary (John) Holinaty; Brothers-in-law Harry (Pauline) Kalinowski; John Kalinowski; John Smytaniuk; Sisters-in-law Mary (William) Balicki; Sophie (Mike) Kalika; Helen (Earl) Middlebrook; and a number of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The family would like to extend our gratitude to the Management and Staff at Pineview/Mennonite Nursing Home in Rosthern, Rosthern Home Care, and the Rosthern Hospital for the excellent care they provided Mom. Your friendship and dedication to Mom’s care and well-being will always be appreciated. Thank you.
Due to COVID no services will be held. Arrangements have been entrusted to Funk’s Funeral Home, Rosthern, (306) 232-5245, http://www.funksfuneralhome.ca.
Sandy, Larry and Darcy and families, my condolences on your loss. I remember Aunty Vicky came down the block often for coffee with mom, she had a great sense of humour, had a beautiful huge garden, and threw amazing new years parties with so much amazing food and even Ukrainian dancing.
Vicki and Jim never missed an occasion wether it was weddings, birthdays etc. A wonderful couple. Vicki always opened her home to us when travelling or just keeping informed with family matters. Just a great person. Vicki will be sadly missed. Lloyd and Mary. From Winnipeg
