March 23, 1947 – January 28, 2021 Shirley passed away peacefully at Sherbrooke Nursing Home in Saskatoon, SK. She was a loving mother, grandmother, auntie, and sister. Shirley was predeceased by her parents Bertha & Joseph Prosper, siblings; Kelvin Prosper, Pearl White, and Doreen Bird; daughter Lorna McLaren; and niece Kara Prosper. Shirley leaves behind her: daughter Brenda McLaren; grandchildren, Hailee McLaren, Kaleb McLaren, and Kaliyah McLaren; siblings, Rose Prosper, Karl Prosper (Debbie), Lucille Prosper, Donna Wuttunnee, Anita Prosper, Sharron Prosper, Lloyd Prosper (Ramona), and Verna Prosper; numerous nieces, nephews, and many extended family and friends. Shirley was born in Batoche in 1947 and was a community member of One Arrow First Nations, located in the Treaty 6 territory. She liked to travel and was a well-known bingo enthusiast. Back in the 90’s she really loved her MC Hammer pants, while singing “I’m Gonna Be” by The Proclaimers. Also, singing hard “and I would walk 500 miles, and I would walk 500 more….”. She was never shy to ask someone for a meal and was a big talker, she liked to visit and would share exactly what she was thinking. She was a big caregiver for her siblings, and she is a residential school survivor. She spent many of her years living and raising her family in the small town of Watrous, SK. She was loved by many and will be missed many more. Due to COVID19 restrictions, the family will not be able to host a traditional wake. We ask for forgiveness as this was a difficult decision to make. Viewing will be held on Monday, February 1, 2021 at Funk’s Funeral Home, Rosthern, SK for immediate family only. A Private Graveside Service will follow at One Arrow Cemetery. Memorial Donations can be made in Shirley’s name to Telemiracle, 2217C Hanselman Court, Saskatoon, SK S7L 6A8.
