March 19, 1939 – Oct. 19, 2020
We are saddened to announce the death of our wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, Sylvia Helena (Sawatzky) Regier, but we are thankful for the joyful long life she had. Sylvia passed away in Rosthern Mennonite Nursing home. Her illness diagnosed as PSP, never could take away her loving kind spirit, or her sweet smile. It was only on the last day of her life that she couldn’t light up her eyes, smile, or give a wink when her sweetheart Karl walked in the room. Special thank you to the Mennonite Nursing Home, Rosthern for the excellent care given, and for the compassion and kindness shown to both Sylvia and Karl. Immediate family gathered for a private funeral and burial at Tiefengrund Rosenort Mennonite Church on Saturday, October 24, 2020. To leave condolences for the family, please visit www.funksfuneralhome.ca/sylvia-regier/. In memory of Sylvia, donations may be made to Mennonite Central Committee, 600-45th Street West, Saskatoon, SK S7L 5W9, which she always supported. Arrangements are entrusted to Funk’s Funeral Home, Rosthern, SK (306)232-5245.

Sorry to hear about Sylvia, she was a great lady who was always welcoming and friendly to everyone.
Condolences to all of the Regier family. Thinking of you.
Tammy, I am grateful for your Mom’s kindness and positive spirit. She always took the time to talk to me when I was growing up – when visiting our home, at local churches, and or at RJC. My sincere condolences to you, your Dad, and the rest of the family.
Sylvia was a beautiful, generous spirit. She faithfully maintained contact with my parents after their move to Outlook and, when Mom suffered a stroke, Sylvia visited her in the hospital and sang to her! Such a precious gift to share! And, of course, I reached out to Sylvia who coordinated the Regier quartet for the funerals of both Dad and Mom. We remain deeply grateful for that blessed gift of music.

Dear Uncle Karl, Pete, Steve, Anita and Tammy and families, My deepest sympathy to you all on the loss of your dear wife, mom, grandma and great-grandma. I have so many wonderful memories of Tante Sylvia. I also greatly enjoyed receiving her annual Xmas letter with photos of your family and she was so amazing at remembering people’s birthdays and sending cards to them every year and for other special occasions. How incredibly thoughtful! She gave the warmest of hugs, such a heartfelt and strong embrace. I remember many deliveries of food gifts to my parents’ home, bringing meals and birthday cakes over. Her baking was so delicious and she made the best doughnuts around. I was always happy to see her at the piano on Sunday mornings. She played so heartily and brought her own special energy to the music at church and our children’s choir. You are all in my thoughts and prayers as you gather to celebrate her beautiful life and the numerous ways she touched so many in our community with her warm, loving, joyful and generous heart. She will be missed by so many and I will always feel blessed to have had Tante Sylvia in my life. May you feel her loving spirit with you always, Gayle Friesen.

Aunt Sylvia was truly one of the kindest, warmest most loving people I have ever met. I loved visiting her every time came to Laird with Mom; eating delicious food on the farm, or sharing laughs at Regier gatherings. I loved hearing her play piano at Tiefengrund, the sparkle in her eyes and the warmth in her smile. Mom always spoke so highly of her and she was so dear to me. Love to all of the family – Uncle Karl, Pete, Steve, Anita, Tam and families. I will miss her a lot.
