March 20, 1956 – August 21, 2014
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Eddy Neufeld, who passed away peacefully in his sleep on August 21, 2014 at 11:45 PM in the Rosthern Hospital due to a heart failure after a short battle with Acute Myeloid Leukemia.
Eddy Neufeld was born on March 20, 1956 in Winkler, Manitoba to John and Elizabeth Neufeld. At the age of ten, his family moved to Bolivia where they settled and established their home, making their living from farming.
Eddy was raised in a Christian home and regularly attended church. He was baptized upon confession of faith in Jesus Christ by Bishop John Guenther on June 6, 1976. Shortly after on July 14, 1977 he got married to Mary Guenther in the Bergthaler Mennonite Church in Bolivia. Eddy and Mary began their new life together and first became parents on April 18, 1978 with the arrival of their firstborn son, Jacob. After God having blessed them with five more sons, they moved back to Canada in 1983 where they had the remainder of their children (totaling 13) and eventually settled and planned to raise their family in Blumenthal, Saskatchewan.
Shortly after they had their last child in 1995, Eddy was diagnosed with Schizophrenia which caused for him to be away from the family until December of 2013, when he returned home to spend the remainder of his life united together once again with his beloved wife and children. During his absence from the home, his wife faithfully continued to love and serve him and all the children with earnest hopeful prayers that the family could be united together in loving reconciliation. We thank God for amazing grace and the love of Jesus Christ which drastically changed Eddy’s heart during the last of his days.
We as the family are thankful to God for the times of joy and laughter we were able to experience together during Eddy’s life here on Earth. We remember his extreme laughter and exaggeration over the smallest things which never failed to respond extreme laughter to the hearer. Along with this, his absolute earnestness in phoning others, keeping his face shaved, and keeping up to date with the weather will always remain as fond memories.
We praise God and thank everyone for so much love, prayers, and sympathy during this time of mourning over the loss of a husband, father, grand-father, brother and friend. In return we pray God’s richest blessing upon you and your families.
The Funeral Service will be held Wednesday, August 27, 2014 at 2:00 P.M. at the Sommerfeld Mennonite Church, east of Hague, Saskatchewan with Rev. Philip Froese officiating. Interment will take place in Sommerfeld Mennonite Cemetery. Arrangements are in care of Funk’s Funeral Home, Rosthern, SK (306-232-5245, http://www.funksfuneralhome.ca).
